# Get Started with WR-Games in Minutes

> Follow these steps to create your WR-Games account, set up your profile, find a local group, and RSVP to your first board game event.

Getting up and running on WR-Games takes just a few minutes. This guide walks you through creating your account, filling in the essentials, and joining your first local board game event. You don't need a subscription — everything here is available on the free tier.

<Tip>
  After you complete sign-up, WR-Games automatically opens an onboarding wizard that walks you through the most important profile fields and points you toward local groups in your area. It's the fastest way to get oriented — don't skip it.
</Tip>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create your account">
    Go to [wr-games.com](https://wr-games.com) and click **Sign Up**. You have three options:

    * **Email and password** — Enter your email address, choose a password, and confirm your email when the verification link arrives in your inbox.
    * **Continue with Google** — Authorize WR-Games through your Google account. No password required.
    * **Continue with Apple** — Sign in with your Apple ID. You can choose to hide your email using Apple's private relay.

    All three methods are equally supported. You can link additional sign-in methods later from your account settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete your profile">
    Once your account is created, set the basics so other members and organizers know who you are:

    * **Display name** — This is how you appear everywhere on WR-Games. Choose something you're comfortable with publicly.
    * **City** — Add your city so WR-Games can surface relevant local groups and events. Washington, DC is the current pilot area.
    * **Profile photo** — Optional, but a photo helps organizers and fellow players recognize you at game night.
    * **BGG username** — Optional. Linking your BoardGameGeek account enables collection sync and game notifications. See [Account Setup](/account-setup) for details.

    <Note>
      You can update any of these details at any time from your profile settings.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find a local group">
    Navigate to the **Groups** directory (or go to `wr-games.com/groups`) to browse board game groups near you. Use the city filter to narrow results to your area.

    Each group card shows its visibility type, membership count, and recent activity. Groups marked **Public** are open to join directly. **Private** groups are visible in the directory but require a join request that the organizer approves. **Hidden** groups are invite-only and won't appear here.

    Click a group to view its profile, upcoming events, and member list before deciding to join.
  </Step>

  <Step title="RSVP to an event">
    Open an event from the group's event list or the main **Events** directory. On the event page you can see:

    * The event type (Game Session, Open Game Night, or Custom Event)
    * Capacity and current RSVP count
    * **On The Table** — the games members plan to bring
    * The attendee list, so you know who's coming before you commit

    Click **Going** to RSVP. If the event is at capacity, click **Join Waitlist** instead — you'll be notified automatically if a spot opens up.

    <Info>
      About four hours before the event, WR-Games sends a Roll Call to all RSVPs. If someone backs out, their seat is released to the next person on the waitlist in real time.
    </Info>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Explore the app">
    With your first RSVP locked in, take a few minutes to get familiar with the rest of WR-Games:

    * **Hub** — Your personalized home feed showing upcoming events, group activity, and announcements from groups you've joined.
    * **Games** — Browse the game directory, search by title, and heart your favorites to get notified when they appear at nearby events.
    * **Play Log** — Record plays after each game night to build your personal gaming history.
    * **Venues** — Explore a map of game-friendly spots in your area — game stores, cafes, and community spaces that host board game events.
  </Step>
