# Editing an Event That's Already Started

> What you can and can't change after an event has started on WR-Games, including the earliest you can set it to end and what happens when you end one early.

Once an event is in progress, you can still edit it, but two safeguards kick in around the end time, because ending an event triggers things that can't be undone.

## What you can change once an event is in progress

Description, location, capacity, and other content fields save normally. The **date and start time are locked** once an event has begun; you can't move them.

How you change the end time depends on how the event's length was set:

* **If the event uses a duration preset,** the **Duration** control still works. Pick 1hr, 90min, 2hr, 3hr or 4hr and the event ends that long after its **start** time. This is the only way to change the end time of an event that is already running.
* **If the event uses a custom end time,** the End date and End time fields are shown but greyed out, and no Duration control appears. The end time can't be changed at all while the event is in progress.

The end time is where the safeguards live:

| If you set the event to end | What happens |
| ---------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------- |
| Less than 15 minutes from now | Blocked |
| Earlier than scheduled, but 15+ minutes from now | Asks you to confirm before saving |
| At or after its scheduled time, 15+ minutes from now | Saves right away |

## Why you can't end an event right now

<Note>
  An in-progress event has to stay open for at least another 15 minutes. If you set the end time closer than that, you'll see: *"An in-progress event must stay open at least 15 more minutes. Pick a later end time."*
</Note>

That 15-minute buffer exists because ending an event is what stops Roll Call and check-in, and starts the 72-hour countdown to attendance being finalized. The delay means none of that happens from a single accidental click.

If you want the event to wrap as soon as possible, pick the shortest duration that still leaves at least 15 minutes on the clock. Presets are measured from the **start** time rather than from now, so which one is shortest-but-still-allowed depends on how long the event has been running: a 1hr preset on an event that started three hours ago would put the end in the past, and is rejected.

## Ending an event early

If you shorten an in-progress event but still leave at least 15 minutes on the clock, WR-Games asks you to confirm before saving:

<Warning>
  **End this event sooner than planned?**

  This ends the event earlier than scheduled. Once it ends, it can't be reopened, and attendance is finalized.

  **End Sooner** · **Keep Current End Time**
</Warning>

That confirmation isn't a formality. Once an event ends, on schedule or early, here's what changes:

* **Roll Call and check-in stop right away.** No one can check in after the event ends, even if they're standing right there.
* **The event can't be reopened.** If you need to keep playing, create a new event.
* **Attendance settles 72 hours later.** Until then nothing is locked in. After that, who came along (and who didn't) counts toward everyone's [Trust Score](/concepts/trust-and-reputation) and reputation points.

## If you ended an event by mistake

<Note>
  There's no self-serve way to reopen an ended event, but you do have a window. Attendance doesn't settle for 72 hours, so if you confirmed "End Sooner" by accident, [get in touch](/help/contact) and we can sort it out.
