# Sync Your BoardGameGeek (BGG) Collection with WR-Games

> Connect your BGG account to import your game collection into WR-Games and get notified when your games appear in upcoming local events.

If your game collection already lives on BGG, there is no need to rebuild it from scratch on WR-Games. Connecting your BGG account pulls in your collections automatically, organises them in your WR-Games collection, and unlocks notifications that fire whenever a game you want to play shows up in an upcoming event near you.

<Note>
  WR-Games only reads your BGG collection data. It never writes back to BGG or modifies your BGG profile, ratings, or collections in any way.
</Note>

## How to Connect Your BGG Account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Integrations">
    Go to **Settings → Integrations**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Your BGG Username">
    Type your username into the **BGG Username** field.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Which Collections to Import">
    WR-Games shows a list of your BGG collection categories. **Owned** and **Want to Play** are checked by default — these are the most useful for finding and attending local events. Toggle any of the other collections on or off to match what you care about.

    <Note>
      WR-Games plans to use your collection data to power more features over time — for example, games in your **Want to Buy** or **Preordered** collections may be used to surface alerts and recommendations in the future.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start Sync">
    Click **Start sync**. WR-Games begins fetching your collection from BGG.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the Sync to Complete">
    The sync typically finishes in under a minute. You will see a confirmation once your games are ready in your collection.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Use the **Select All** and **Clear All** buttons above the category list to configure your collections quickly without toggling each one individually.
</Tip>

<Note>
  **Want to Play** games import into their own folder. When you open your Collection page, it defaults to showing your **Owned** games — switch to the Want to Play tab to see that collection.
</Note>

## What Gets Synced

WR-Games reads up to 7 BGG collection categories. You choose which ones to include:

| Collection           | What it includes                           |
| :------------------- | :----------------------------------------- |
| **Want to Play** | Games on your BGG Want to Play list |
| **Owned** | Games you have marked as owned |
| **Wishlist** | Games you want to acquire |
| **For Trade** | Games you are willing to trade away |
| **Want to Buy** | Games you are actively looking to purchase |
| **Preordered** | Games you have on preorder |
| **Previously Owned** | Games you owned in the past |

<Note>
  Your **Want to Play** list and your **WR-Games Favorites** are the two that trigger event notifications — save a game to either and you'll hear about local events featuring it near you.
</Note>

## After Syncing

Once the sync completes, your games appear in your **Collection** tab, organised by the collection categories you enabled. From there you can browse by collection, search within your collection, and view each game's detail page.

## Re-Syncing

Your BGG collection does not update automatically on a set schedule. After your first sync, the Integrations card switches to a **Save & Re-Sync** view — return here any time to add or remove collections, or to pull in recent BGG changes like newly acquired games and updated collection assignments.

<Note>
  **Auto-sync is coming soon.** We're working on automatic BGG collection updates so you don't have to re-sync manually.
</Note>

## Resetting or Wiping Your Collection

The **Danger Zone** in **Settings → Integrations** gives you two options for clearing your synced data. Both are destructive — but with very different blast radii. Read before you act.

|                                 | Reset BGG Sync  | Wipe Collection        |
| :------------------------------ | :-------------- | :--------------------- |
| BGG-synced games                | Removed         | Removed                |
| Sync history & status           | Cleared         | Cleared                |
| Manual games                    | Kept            | Removed                |
| Custom folders                  | Kept            | Removed                |
| Favorites                       | Kept            | Removed                |
| BGG username                    | Kept            | Cleared                |
| Board Game Arena (BGA) username | Kept | Kept |
| Auto-contribute setting         | Kept on         | Cleared                |
| Recovery                        | Re-sync anytime | Reconnect from scratch |

<Warning>
  **Reset BGG sync** clears your synced library and sync history — but nothing you've built manually is touched. Your manual games, custom folders, Favorites, BGG username, and any games you've contributed to groups by hand all stay. Auto-contribute stays on, so the next sync rebuilds your collection based on what you currently own.

  Use Reset when your sync is in a bad state and you want a clean re-pull — or to clear out games you no longer own.
</Warning>

<Danger>
  **Wipe collection** goes further. It removes everything Reset removes, and also clears your BGG username and disconnects the integration entirely. This cannot be undone — reconnecting and re-syncing from scratch is the only way back.

  Use Wipe only if you want to completely cut ties with your current BGG link and start over from zero.
</Danger>

<Note>
  Neither option affects your BGG account or your Board Game Arena (BGA) username. Everything stays exactly as it is on those platforms.
